Best friends forever
Meeting as 11-year-old schoolgirls in 1941, Olive Woodward and Kathleen Saville instantly hit it off.
There was never any doubt that they’d be best friends for life, and through all of life’s twists and turns, including later on, the deaths of both their husbands, Olive and
Kathleen have been by each other’s sides.
They’d never lived more than a 10-minute walk away from each other, so when Kathleen moved into a retirement home in 2018, the pair were heartbroken at not seeing each other every day.
‘I missed her and I used to go and see her every Saturday for lunch,’ Olive told the BBC in December 2019. ‘Then I thought, Why don’t I move in, too?’
So Olive, then 89, found a room on the same oor as Kathleen’s, and the staff soon dubbed them the ‘dynamic duo’.
‘She means a lot to me,’ Kathleen said. ‘If Olive goes
rst she’ll come back to fetch me. We’re going to be friends in heaven.’ ●
