Am I depressed?
QThis year did not start well for me. My husband and I have decided that, after 23 years of marriage, we need to go our separate ways, but we cannot agree over the financial arrangements and it’s all becoming quite unpleasant. I’m waking at 3am every morning in a panic and I burst into tears all the time. My friends think I am depressed and should see my GP, but I am adamant that I don’t want antidepressants.
A Separating after so many years is a major life event, and early morning waking is a classic symptom of depression. You should talk this through with your doctor. Antidepressants aren’t the only option – your GP may suggest talking therapies or even suggest trying a herbal remedy first.
