Is it time she changed contraception?

-

QMy sister, 46, came to stay with me. She is younger than me and still using contraception, but I’m concerned that she could be on the wrong pill. She is using a combined pill and I am sure my GP took me off that type of pill in my 40s because of a risk of blood clots?

A We used to recommend stopping the combined pill over 40, but as long as your sister is a healthy weight, not a smoker and there is no family history of blood clots, her GP will be happy for her to continue on it until the age of 50. If any of those don’t apply to her, or she is concerned, she should discuss this with her doctor.
