Is my mole dangerous?

-

QI’m 56 and have a brown, crusty looking mole that rubs on my braline. It isn’t bleeding but I think it’s getting bigger. Should I be worried?

A

Any mole that changes shape or colour, or starts to bleed or itch, should always be checked out by a GP. The most likely diagnosis is a seborrhoeic keratosis, which is sometimes rather unkindly also referred to as a senile wart. By the age of 40, around a third of all of us will have at least one of these and they are completely benign. If this is the case, your GP will be able to reassure you in minutes, as they have a very characteristic appearance – but do please get it looked at, just in case.
