that's life (Australia)

From homeless to millionaire

- As told to Amber Wemyss

When it was printed, I was so excited, I bought several copies, including some for my family back home.

Over the years that followed, dozens of my stories were published in both the weekly edition of that’s life! and the Fast Fiction specials.

Covering genres such as romance, thrillers, crime and even spooky stories, it was such an incredible feeling to see my name in black and white.

After taking a short break from work when I became a mum to my boys, Daniel and Lucas, I returned to casual teaching.

But, since their dad worked away a lot, it meant that if the kids were ever sick, I had to stay home to look after them.

Following one too many sick days, I was sadly let go.

I was gutted, but it meant I had more time to focus on my true passion – writing.

So, over the next six months, I poured my heart and soul into writing a new book called Shiver.

Inspired by my winters in the French Alps, the thriller follows ve friends who attend a reunion at a ski resort that soon turns deadly.

Incredibly, the book was picked up by a publisher and was released in Australia last month.

Now, a TV company wants to turn my story into a drama series.

Thirteen years on from my rst story being published, I can’t believe how far I’ve come.

I’m eternally grateful to that’s life! for helping me land my dream job! ●
