UREA CYCLE DISORDERS (UCDS)

• Protein from food is usually broken down into amino acids by enzymes in the body and any waste is passed in urine.

• With urea cycle disorder, the liver can’t make one of the enzymes needed and toxic ammonia builds up in the blood.

• Treatment includes special diets, medication and in some cases liver transplants.
