■ Nobody likes being under the spotlight of an employment interview. But jobseekers should look at this as an opportunity to really promote themselves – sell to excel.

■ Little things like polished shoes and organised folders might sound trivial but this suggests you are an employee who is organised and takes pride in their appearance. Employers are taking note because they want people to represent their company well.

■ If you are unsuccessful, don’t be despondent. If you show you have the right attitude and take their feedback on board, you can use it to show your eagerness if you reapply for a similar position with the company.

■ Know your facts and do your research on the company. Why bomb out on something which was so easy to find out?
