■ No­body likes be­ing un­der the spot­light of an em­ploy­ment in­ter­view. But job­seek­ers should look at this as an op­por­tu­nity to re­ally pro­mote them­selves – sell to excel.

■ Lit­tle things like pol­ished shoes and or­gan­ised fold­ers might sound triv­ial but this sug­gests you are an em­ployee who is or­gan­ised and takes pride in their ap­pear­ance. Em­ploy­ers are tak­ing note be­cause they want peo­ple to rep­re­sent their com­pany well.

■ If you are un­suc­cess­ful, don’t be de­spon­dent. If you show you have the right at­ti­tude and take their feed­back on board, you can use it to show your ea­ger­ness if you reap­ply for a sim­i­lar po­si­tion with the com­pany.

■ Know your facts and do your re­search on the com­pany. Why bomb out on some­thing which was so easy to find out?
