Location: Improvements to rural and regional roads and highways are underway across the state, including shoulder sealing, installing new and upgraded rest areas, overtaking lanes and roadside hazard protection. The Dukes Highway and South Eastern Freeway from Mount Barker to the Victorian border and Sturt Highway are receiving major improvements. An overpass is under development at Mclaren Vale to improve safety for Victor Harbor traffic, while a bypass road for Penola also has been planned. New and expanded ports on the eastern Eyre Peninsula are in planning or development, including at Lucky Bay and Port Bonython. Jetties and other marine facilities across the state are being restored or replaced.
Workers required: Construction labourers, plant operators and road workers are required from local areas, with many companies being asked to employ a percentage of the total workforce from within the region. Project managers, civil engineers and other contractors are needed for planning as well as on-site.
