Food trade stu­dent Sheri­dan Bar­rett – Certificate IV in Patis­serie at Re­gency TAFE.

She is do­ing a six­month course that teaches stu­dents skills in bak­ing, from bread mak­ing to cake mak­ing, and dec­o­rat­ing.

She says she en­joys learn­ing about an ex­pand­ing area of the trade sec­tor.

‘‘Ade­laide has never been big on the patis­serie side of things,’’ she says.

‘‘So it’s good to be part of bring­ing the patis­serie side of things here.

‘‘I like mak­ing food that peo­ple re­mem­ber, like wed­ding cakes. They’re a big part of peo­ple’s lives when they get mar­ried.’’
