Industry group says pay rise adds risks

The Advertiser - Careers - - Job Focus -

A PAY rise for social and community sector workers granted by Fair Work Australia this month creates ‘‘ huge risks’’ for the workplace relations system, warns Ai Group.

Chief executive Heather Ridout says a minimum wage increase of up to 45 per cent, to be phased in over eight years, is on top of annual wage review increases.

‘‘ The decision of the majority of the Full Bench demonstrates that the equal remuneration provisions of the Fair Work Act need be tightened to prevent widespread flow-on to other industries and workplaces,’’ she says.

‘‘ The Act should require that equal remuneration orders are based upon proof that there has been discrimination.’’
