WAGE subsidies for employers who take on mature-age employees will help ensure highly skilled and experienced workers can continue to contribute to the national economy, Ai Group says.

The Federal Government will provide employers with $1000 to hire a jobseeker aged 45 years or over to help address matureage unemployment.

Ai Group chief executive designate Innes Willox says it is critical to make an effort to change the mindset of employers so they become more willing to recruit and retain mature-age workers. ‘‘ In the last decade, workers aged 45 plus account for 72 per cent of (labour force) growth,’’ he says.
