Name: Mark Ed­munds Age: 33 Former po­si­tion: Car sales­man Job sought: Ap­pren­tice chef. I left school for a pas­try ap­pren­tice­ship. I al­ways wanted to be a chef but I had a boss who was a bit crazy and he scared the liv­ing hell out of me. It got me out of the kitchen. One of the other ca­reers I wanted to pur­sue was an au­to­mo­tive trade. But all the time I was think­ing I missed my call­ing, I should have been a chef. I spent ev­ery minute in mar­kets or hav­ing ‘‘guinea pigs’’ over for food par­ties. I ap­plied for Masterchef. I didn’t get on to the show but two months later I just thought ‘‘what am I do­ing?’’. I quit my $60,000-a-year job and gave my re­sume to all the top restau­rants.
