Gas industry will need to attract workers
THE gas industry needs an image makeover to ensure it can cover an increasing number of retirements and shortfall of skills.
Research from the International Gas Union finds the industry is viewed as a less attractive career option than similar industries, particularly among young people and female workers.
Two-thirds of gas industry employees plan to retire in the next 15 to 20 years and there are not enough traditional workers coming through the ranks to meet the looming demand.
Gas industry adviser Barbara Jinks says few gas companies are adequately preparing for the significant transition in their teams.
