ALMOST one in five, or 19.6 per cent, of unemployed people have been out of work for a year or more, Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show.

Its data from July 2012 reveals most people (18 per cent) had the most difficulty securing work because of poor health or disability, while 14 per cent say there are too many other applicants.

Of those who started a new job in the previous 12 months, 23 per cent had looked for work for less than a month.
