WORK­ERS need to de­velop skills that em­ploy­ers will value in 2013 and be­yond to cap­i­talise on the op­por­tu­ni­ties ahead, Rand­stad’s New Year Out­look re­veals.

It sug­gests work­ers who want to fast-track their ca­reer need to in­vest time in de­vel­op­ing skills seen to have the great­est value into the fu­ture by em­ploy­ers.

Em­ploy­ers be­lieve the most crit­i­cal skills that will en­sure their or­gan­i­sa­tions will be com­pet­i­tive in the next five years are lead­er­ship skills (as rated by 29 per cent of em­ploy­ers sur­veyed), cre­ative/in­no­vat­ing skills (16 per cent) and tech­ni­cal skills (15 per cent).

Work­ers also should be aware that many op­por­tu­ni­ties may arise at short no­tice.
