IT, health staff short­ages

THE skills short­age is one of 10 tal­ent trends that will af­fect the re­cruit­ment land­scape in 2013, Hays re­veals.

The re­cruit­ment firm says high-skilled pro­fes­sion­als in spe­cific sec­tors, such as health­care and ac­coun­tancy, re­main in short sup­ply so far this year.

Short­ages of good qual­ity can­di­dates in IT re­main, with par­tic­u­lar de­mand for skilled soft­ware de­vel­op­ers and can­di­dates in­volved in IT in­fra­struc­ture.

It says the num­ber of IT grad­u­ates in Aus­tralia has dropped by 5.3 per cent in the past five years, which is ex­ac­er­bat­ing the short­age of staff.

Some min­ing and re­sources staff are re­quired, de­spite a down­turn in the sec­tor.
