Fewer ap­pren­tices drop out of train­ing

MORE ap­pren­tices were in train­ing last year than the pre­vi­ous year as more peo­ple started and fewer peo­ple dropped out.

Lat­est statis­tics com­piled for the Depart­ment of In­dus­try, In­no­va­tion, Cli­mate Change, Science, Re­search and Ter­tiary Ed­u­ca­tion show there were 454,700 ap­pren­tices in train­ing as of last De­cem­ber, a 1.6 per cent in­crease on the pre­vi­ous year.

The num­ber of peo­ple who com­pleted their ap­pren­tice­ship dur­ing the year also in­creased by 5.7 per cent to 191,200.

A 1.7 per cent de­cline in the num­ber of peo­ple who can­celled or with­drew from their ap­pren­tice­ship oc­curred but 138,700 ap­pren­tices still dropped out of train­ing.
