Country living in a horse haven
Horse facilities, a tennis court and pool are among the many features of a Mt George property, writes Sarah Daly.
FROM catching trout in the dam to riding horses in the paddocks, a Mt George property offers a country lifestyle close to Adelaide. Known as the Mt George Equestrian Centre, the 12.75ha property includes an indoor arena with a viewing area, fulllength mirrors and saddling area, plus an outside jumping arena.
‘‘The Adelaide Hills are very special and the kids have loved riding ponies and their motorbikes around the property. It really has everything you could want your children to grow up with,’’ the vendor says.
‘‘There are three dams and we used to stock the dam closest to the home with trout and yabbies, perch in the middle dam and our turtles are still there, which have grown from pennysize to more than 30cm across.’’
The architecturally designed home has had three reinventions over the years, expanding to suit the vendor’s growing family. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are at one end, leading to a living area, which is a space the vendor has used as a teenagers’ retreat.
The main bedroom includes a marble ensuite with a double shower and spa, dressing room and reading area. It also boasts a floor-to-ceiling panoramic view of the property.
‘‘The bedrooms are a wonderful place to go and relax, but the real hub of the home is the central living area with a big open fireplace,’’ the vendor says.
The living space also includes the kitchen, which has an island bench with granite benchtop, double oven, gas and electric hotplates and a sliding window servery to the pool room.
‘‘This is a fantastic party house. Two of my children have had weddings here. There have been countless summer lunches and live bands with 200 to 300 guests,’’ the vendor says. ‘‘The pool area has been ideal for entertaining and there’s also a spa and adjacent sauna which can be accessed via french doors which run the length of the pool and open out to the paved patio.’’
The outdoor space also includes a floodlit tennis court, a further three lockers and saddling areas, a hot and cold wash bay and groom’s quarters with one bedroom, living area, bathroom and kitchen.
‘‘The great thing about the property is that it has that special country feel but is so close to amenities in Bridgewater and Stirling and only 12 minutes f r om t he t ol l g a t e , ’ ’ t he vendor says.
