Makeover magic on bayside villa
Renovated living areas are among features of a twobedroom art deco home, writes Lachlan Pryor.
JETTY Road was the only retail precinct to offer seven-day trading when the vendors of a Glenelg East home moved into the suburb 15 years ago. ‘‘My wife loves shopping on Jetty Rd and when we moved here in 1996, it was the only sevenday-per-week shopping area,’’ the vendor says.
The two-bedroom home, with a study, is being sold so the vendors can move into a new home with more space for when interstate relatives visit.
‘‘We’ve put 15 years of hard work into the house so it will be sad to go,’’ the vendor says.
‘‘We are moving to an apartment on the Esplanade which will have an extra room and extra bathroom for family from Victoria.
‘‘So I am going to lose my garden and have to climb stairs.’’
The art deco home has been further decorated by the vendors, who have installed leadlight windows, renovated the property’s open-plan kitchen and living areas and worked extensively on the garden.
‘‘We renovated the bathroom to have a frameless shower, put on a veranda and worked hard on the garden,’’ the vendor says
The master bedroom has a walk-in robe while the home also boasts a timber kitchen, ducted reverse-cycle airconditioning and a paved outdoor area with a water feature.
The vendor says the home would suit people at varying stages of life.
‘‘This house would be ideal for a retired couple who wanted to live close to the beach and jetty road,’’ the vendor says.
‘‘We walk to the beach fairly often and when there are events on you don’t have any parking problems.
‘‘But it could also suit a young couple who are starting off and may have a couple of children. There is room for a toddler to run around in the backyard.’’
The vendor says the Glenelg East area has a lot to offer.
Aside from the beach and shops, the home is close to schools, nearby parks – one with a barbecue is 50m away – and the Glenelg Oval.
‘‘We are only a five-minute walk to Glenelg Primary School and if they are Glenelg Tigers barrackers, they are only a five-minute walk to the (football) oval,’’ he says.
