Small family, big f ind
A renovated property sits in a friendly neighbourhood, writes Lachlan Pryor.
AHOME in a family-friendly neighbourhood has been thoroughly renovated by the vendor. David Bennetts moved to the Clapham home from Sydney about three years ago because of an attraction to the area and the size of the block.
‘‘I grew up in Adelaide and had a pretty good idea of what Clapham had to offer,’’ he says.
‘‘We’ve done a lot of work on the house. We put in a new kitchen and bathroom, we took down a wall to make it open-plan and worked on the floorboards, which are mostly original.’’
Mr Bennetts says they also repainted and worked extensively on the garden.
The home has three double bedrooms, a new second toilet, high ceilings and new carpets.
The open-plan living meals area continues to the outdoor entertaining area and low-maintenance private landscaped gardens. Mr Bennetts says the home would suit a small family.
‘‘A couple with a baby on the way or a couple with one child would be perfect,’’ he says. ‘‘Ideally it would be someone who enjoys sitting outside with a good outdoor cooking area.
‘‘We quite like Mitcham Shopping Centre, which is only five minutes away, with the cinema.
‘‘We have a dog and there is Mortlock Park nearby where we can walk her down each evening – something a lot of other people seem to enjoy.’’
Mr Bennetts says the area of Clapham is changing to suit families.
‘‘Most people who live here are elderly and have been here a long time but you can see young families coming in as the older families move out.’’
