Ms Gillard says the area has the benefits of Glenelg without the large price tag.

‘‘It’s close to Glenelg and a little bit more affordable than Glenelg East and Glenelg South,’’ she says.

‘‘More people seem to be buying in Glenelg North, including a lot of first-home buyers.’’

Ms Gillard says the area is close to the entertainment at Glenelg but also has its own attractions. ‘‘There are walks, trees and a lot of lawn for kids to play on,’’ she says. ‘‘You can go down to the beach and fish, it’s a stone’s throw from the beach.’’

The area also has good public transport. ‘‘It’s serviced by buses but there is also the tram at Glenelg, which is a hop, skip and jump away,’’ Ms Gillard says.

ADVANTAGES PLUS: Viola West outside the house she has lived in since 1946, with her daughter, Jane.
