Restored to 1920s glory
A maisonette to entertain in, writes Tom Dougherty.
A1920s maisonette at Thebarton has been fully restored to the perfect entertainer ideal for a family, the vendor says. ‘‘It had a brand new kitchen put in, a completely refurbished bathroom, the living room we polished the floors and there were french doors put in,’’ she says.
‘‘Because the outdoor indoor space is there, you can actually have the outdoors inside, we kept the back open, it is a really good entertaining house.’’
The property has decorative archways in the entrance hall, and the three bedrooms are at the front of house.
They all have polished timber floors and ceiling fans, and the master at the front has a fireplace.
‘‘The bedrooms are really generous sizes, all of the ceilings in every bedroom are ornate ceilings that have been refurbished, it all has the 1920s character that has been restored,’’ she says.
The kitchen and dining room is towards the back of the property.
It features a pantry, modern stainless steel appliances, an Asko dishwasher, polished timber floors and white cupboards.
‘‘It is a really spacious kitchen so it is a really easy eat-in kitchen because it is so big,’’ she says.
At the back of the property in a modern extension is a loungeroom, which features polished concrete floors and a skylight.
There are two sets of timber-framed french doors in the loungeroom that open out to the backyard, where there is a lawn area and palm trees.
Also at the back of the home is a black and white tiled bathroom with a shower, and a European-style laundry with a built-in cupboard.
Attached to the side of the property is a double carport, and there is a paved entertaining area adjacent.
‘‘The nicest part about it is that it is a very quiet place,’’ she says.
‘‘There is no noise that you can hear, on the weekend it is really quiet, we were quite surprised.
‘‘The home would suit a young professional family with a couple of kids, people who actually want a backyard.’’
Located at the end of a no-through road, the home is close to Linear Park, Kings Reserve and Thebarton Oval.
There are schools in the area including Thebarton Senior College, as well as public transport nearby along both South Rd and West Thebarton Rd.
