Location is everything
Shops, city and swimming pool so handy, writes Tom Dougherty.
ACHARACTER home at Marden was in the ideal location for vendor Lesley McDonald. ‘‘We wanted something that was easy to maintain and close to facilities and the city,’’ she says. ‘‘I love it because you’re right next to the shopping centre but you wouldn’t know it, and there is an Olympic swimming pool that I can ride my bike to in five minutes.
‘‘I also liked the older-style house and there are a few in the street. They were all built by the same builder in 1915.’’
The property has three bedrooms, all of which are located in the front part of the property and all have fireplaces and ceiling fans.
The master has a fireplace, a walk-in robe and an ensuite with shower.
‘‘All of the bedrooms are large and lovely and they all have high ceilings,’’ she says.
There is also a loungeroom with a fireplace in the front section of the house.
At the back of the property is an open-plan kitchen, living and meals area with conservatorystyle windows at the back and a slate floor.
The kitchen features a stainless steel oven, a double sink, a corner pantry, a Bosch dishwasher and a breakfast bar.
‘‘The kitchen is great, I love it, the benchtop is really good and a great colour scheme,’’ Ms McDonald says.
Also in the back section of the home is a twoway bathroom with a bath and a shower, and a separate study.
French doors from the meals area open out to a paved entertaining area at the back of the house.
‘‘We put security flyscreens and doors on, the garden was quite run down so I fixed up all of the yard,’’ she says.
‘‘The outdoor area is great for entertaining, at Christmas time I put lights in the trees and there is a lovely cottage garden.
‘‘It would be good for a younger family with young children, or working people who don’t want to do much gardening,’’ she says.
