This Hills hideaway is a celebration of the past and the future, all in an in-demand location

A Stirling home allows you to get back to nature, while enjoying the period hallmarks of the ’70s.

Vendor Heike bought the property in 2012, attracted by its leafy location and the tranquillity and serenity it offered.

“I love the surrounds – down the road is a lake with a beautiful native forest and it’s extremely special and has a lot of birdlife and koalas,” Heike says. “I also love the climate because it’s always about 5C cooler than the city in summer.

“I also really love the ’70s features and I’m a huge Bowie fan and it reminds me of that era.

“Being set in a valley where the house is, it’s so quiet and private. The house is located 20minutes from the city centre and, with black cockatoos in the backyard, it’s the perfect retreat. Only in Adelaide can you find that with an affordable price tag.”

The home has four bedrooms, a study, an open-plan kitchen and meals area, a living room with a combustion heater and a bathroom.

“It’s great for parties and that kitchen is big enough that you can really host quite amazing parties there,” Heike says.

“Plus, outside there’s an enclosed area with a fireplace and a hedge and that’s a great place for entertaining.”

Heike has renovated aspects of the home – with the bathroom sporting floor-to-ceiling tiles, up-to-the-minute fixtures and a stunning feature bath; and the kitchen featuring contemporary appliances.

“I’ve always loved in period homes so I’ve been really aware of retaining that ’70s charm, and even in doing the kitchen, I really took inspiration from that era,” Heike says.

“We retained the South African slate, which most people would have probably ripped up, but we wanted to keep it because it has a real beauty to it and that really inspired the kitchen. The copper elements of the home, I really tied them into the colour palette of the benchtops.”

Heike is sad to be selling, but says the home would be ideal for a family with teenagers, or an intergenerational family.

“I’ve absolutely loved it here – it’s been an incredible place to live,” she says.

“I’m certain whoever buys it will be very happy here.”
