LETTER OF THE WEEK
I recently cried through a horse sale, hoping that a generous stud owner would buy my four-year-old thoroughbred and give her a good life as a brood mare. While she was the second-top priced horse sold that day, it devastates me to read about the horses under a reserve of $400 that may have been bought to be slaughtered and sold overseas as a delicacy (Paddock to Plate 17/7/10). It angers me to think that our government supports cultures that eat horse. If I had the money, I would outbid everyone on the lower-priced horses and take them to a sanctuary in central Australia.
