MICHAEL HARRY SOLVES YOUR DAILY DILEMMAS

The Advertiser - SA Weekend - - OPENERS -

Q I recently started a band with a few mates, but we can’t seem to decide on the right name. We have pages of notes but it always ends in an argument. Any tips? GJ, Thebarton. A You can’t go wrong with hot things, black things, or wolf things . . . See Hot Chip, the Hot Lies, Hot Hot Heat, Dogs Die In Hot Cars, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Also: The Black Keys, The Black Lips, Black Kids, The Black Crowes, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Black Eyed Peas. Then there’s Wolfmother, The Wolf Parade, Patrick Wolf, We are Wolves, Wolf and Cub and of course, Wolf. Other popular conventions include Marina and the Diamonds and Florence and the Machine but that’s nothing new. You could open the dictionary at random (cough, Evanescence), throw in a cool city (Birds of Tokyo, Tokyo Police Club), mess with punctuation (Ke$ha, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, !!!), or go weird (Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head; Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly; We Were Promised Jetpacks). But seriously, whatever you choose, don’t take yourselves too seriously. Send your questions to saweek[email protected]
