MICHAEL HARRY SOLVES YOUR DAILY DILEMMAS
Q I work with a man who is constantly – and I mean constantly – clearing his throat. I’m about to kill him. Can I talk to him about it? SJ, Brighton
AI have also worked alongside obsessive throat clearers. It’s really annoying. They sound as though they are putt-putt-puttering along like a tweaked-out rust bucket car. Once you notice it, you just can’t get it out of your head. You’re waiting for them to do it again. It’s like water torture. Drip. Drip. Drip. Cough. Cough. Cough. But from the upbeat charity collector to the oblivious BO spreader, we all work with annoying people. I have a habit of picking up my mouse and tapping on the desk while I’m working. It’s annoying, but I can’t help it. If someone “told me off” for this, or for clearing my throat, well, I’d be annoyed. I’m sure this guy isn’t grunting just to irritate you. There isn’t much he can do about it. It kinda sucks for him. You saying something – such as passive aggressively making a joke about it – would be like telling someone off for breathing too loudly, or chewing too vigorously. Not on. Get some headphones.
