respect for the Muslim community since it contains a mosque. We want to visit Hong Kong around September or October with our by then 20-month-old toddler. We also want to spend a week on a beach resort on the way home which is not too expensive or creates too much extra flying time. Where would you suggest as a stopover? Wendy Buckley from the family travel planning specialists, Travel with Kidz (travelwithkidz.com.au) suggests staying at the Disneyland Hotel at Hong Kong Disneyland (park. hongkongdisneyland.com) which is geared for younger children. The up-and-coming Hainan Island (China’s Phuket, more or less, located off the country’s south coast) is an easy flight from Hong Kong and features white sandy beaches and isn’t crowded (well, not yet at least). Buckley says Mangrove Tree Resort (mangrovetreeresort.com) at Yalong Bay caters well for families. One carrier with direct flights to Hong Kong from Australia is Virgin Atlantic (virginatlantic.com), which has crew trained to cater for children on board and with toddler seats available. The seats currently can’t be pre-booked so be prepared to explain your requirements on check-in.
