The Doc visited Chile earlier this year and took US dollars which he exchanged for pesos at hotels along the way, keeping some small denomination greenbacks for tips. You won’t have any problems using a credit or debit card (loaded with US dollars before you leave) or a credit card in Chilean or Argentine restaurants and shops. You can withdraw funds as needed but, as is the case in many destinations these days, take care when withdrawing cash from ATMs, especially at night. US dollars are only accepted in cash at touristoriented locations and occasionally in hotels.
