DESSERT bars and patisseries are on the rise, but few offer the array of Mediterranean treats found at Al Mina in Blair Athol. Headed by father-and-son team Sam Mina Sr and Sam Jr (left), Mina has more than 200 baked sweets, including Turkish, Lebanese, Greek and French influences. Look out for knefeh Lebanese cheesecake, Turkish baklava, mammoul semolina dough pastries, petit fours and the popular scalded cream pastry rolls. Sam Jr, 39, worked in hospitality before teaming with his father six months ago to open the patisserie and wholesale business. Sam says he’s “not just selling products but history, too.” “I’m thankful for shows like
and because they’ve made people willing to try new things,” he says. Al Mina also has a ”guilt free” range of baked foods, which are vegan and also dairy, gluten and sugar free.
