Ian Henschke re­minds us ( Bot­tom­line, June 14-15) that June is Bowel Cancer Aware­ness month, and that this dis­ease is the sec­ond big­gest cause of cancer death in Aus­tralia.

Obe­sity and lack of ex­er­cise are not the sole rea­son for ris­ing num­bers. CSIRO re­searchers rec­om­mend con­sum­ing 20g of re­sis­tant fi­bre (about four times what we eat now.)
