(ACTING) EDITOR’S LETTER
Reports of The Big Yin’s demise are greatly exaggerated. That’s the good news about Billy Connolly, who lives with the debilitating diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. He would hate the phrase “heart-warming” so I’ll spare him that but Connolly’s fearlessness — we all die, so what’s new? — is amazing.
We also have a rare interview with Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, our former Governor and Olympic runner. In the 1970s she lost Peter Nelson, the love of her life, and through the foundation in his name is moving towards a hoped-for leukaemia cure.
And don’t forget tonight’s opening of the Tour de France. Read about how the cyclists go into the 23-day race knowing they face a whole world of pain. We get to sit back and watch.
