DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

The Advertiser - SA Weekend - - MOVIE REVIEWS -

If 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a game-changer, wait until you get a load of the sequel. Dawn is hell-bent on racking up a record score. Ten years have passed since Simian Flu reduced mankind to a shadow of its former self. Meanwhile, courtesy of their leader Caesar (Andy Serkis), the apes are evolving. If San Francisco’s remaining humans can jumpstart a nearby hydroelectric dam, located deep inside Caesar territory, the road to civilisation will be a little shorter. The scripting is sharp and thematically ambitious for an action-driven film, and the mastery of Serkis’ acting goes to a new level of emoting. A bigticket item for thrill seekers and deep thinkers alike.
