LETTER OF THE WEEK
Thank you Mark Dapin for “Carpe Diem” (August 2-3). Reading your articles can be like having an itchy haemorrhoid; one can’t ignore it.
I was reminded of a visit to my parents overseas years ago. After dinner one night, mum called out to me to stay and finish off the bottle of McLaren Vale red I’d brought.
I dreaded it, not because the rest of the family had immediately run out the door to get ice cream, but mum can outmatch a buzzing mosquito.
As she sipped her drink, she told me a fascinating story about my late grandmother. After two hours, I was captivated by her detailed family history. I told myself that I would write it down; but years went by and the opportunity was never seized.
So thanks for the article, I will grab a bottle of fine red, book myself on a flight, and Carpe Diem. En Lim Pasadena
