Fort Largs homes plan

COMMUNITY organisations will be able to register interest in the historic buildings at Fort Largs as part of plans to safeguard the heritage of the former police academy site.

The State Government is preparing to sell the 7.4ha Fort Largs site through an expression of interest process, beginning today, to allow a range of options to be considered before a buyer is determined.

The site includes up to 6.3ha of developable land while the remaining area comprises the State Heritage-listed Fort, Barracks and Drill Hall.

Urban Development Minister John Rau said community groups were encouraged to take part in a registration of interest process on the use of the fort to ensure the best outcome for the heritage buildings.

Zoned residential, most of the site, other than the fort, is expected to be used for homes.
