Player’s gift of life after fatal injury
A YOUNG Queensland rugby league player who died after an on-field accident could save up to 10 lives through organ donation.
Father-of-two James Ackerman, below, died in hospital yesterday, with family and friends of the Sunshine Coast Falcons player now being comforted by the fact his death will give life to those in dire need.
Ackerman was fatally injured while playing against the Norths Devils on Saturday.
A DonateLife Queensland spokeswoman said it was possible up to 10 lives could be saved by the organ donation from a single person.
In a statement, Ackerman’s family thanked the medical staff at the ground and the hospital.
“James loved the game of rugby league, he always played the game with his heart on his sleeve. We will miss you,” Ackerman’s family said in a statement.
