Dreyfus off committee

SHADOW attorney general Mark Dreyfus has quit the powerful intelligence and counter terrorism oversight committee to avoid a humiliating vote to boot him off.

The Abbott Government was prepared to force a vote in the House of Representatives unless Mr Dreyfus — a temporary member — stood aside.

The Labor MP joined the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Intelligence and Security to examine controversial metadata proposals under an agreement between Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Opposition leader Bill Shorten.
