Fire concern before death

-

THE apartment building where Sydney student Connie Zhang jumped to her death trying to escape a fire had been ordered to undergo significant safety improvements prior to the blaze, an inquest has heard.

Building manager Peter Poulos said he spoke to the owner’s corporation about the orders from Bankstown Council and Fire Rescue NSW but never tabled the documents in a meeting, adding that he had never seen a fire extinguisher at the complex.

Ms Zhang leapt to her death in 2012 after becoming trapped by a fire on the fifth floor.
