Fresh fears of Facebook
FACEBOOK has admitted it could record short clips of customers using its new video chat device.
It had vowed the product – known as Portal – will not collect any data from users. However, it says some short voice and video clips may now be temporarily stored to help experts spot glitches in the system.
The revelation comes as Facebook tries to clean up its image, following a year of bad publicity in which the firm was accused of betraying users’ trust and failing to keep youngsters safe.
The admission that it will hold Portal owners’ video and voice data is likely to alarm potential buyers of the tablet that is dedicated to video calls.
