Today’s so yesterday, says Grant

The Advertiser - - CONFIDENTIAL -

ORMER Sunrise weather presenter Grant Denyer says the Today revamp won’t save the show.

Nine’s relaunched its breakfast show with Deb Knight replacing dumped high-profile Karl Stefanovic, alongside Georgie Gardner.

They are joined by newsreader Tom Steinfort, taking over from Sylvia Jeffreys, sports presenter Tim Gilbert’s replacement Tony Jones and former Triple J presenter Brooke Boney, who has filled Richard Wilkin’s role. Grant, below, says he doesn’t think the overhaul will work. “It’s progressive that there’s two female hosts, and what’s clever about that move is that they’ve trumped what Sunrise was about to do. Sunrise’s next move was that they were going to remove the male-and-female combination when Kochie (SA’s David Koch) retires, it was going to be two girls.”

“What you’ve got to remember is that breakfast TV is entertainment first.

“So you’ve now got two very experienced, serious, wonderful interviewers (Deb and Georgie) but you don’t have entertainers.”
