The Advertiser - - SPORT - LINCOLN MOORE

SOUTH Australia’s young stars of the saddle, Lachlan Neindorf and Kayla Crowther, have secured key rides in Saturday’s $400,000 Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

Neindorf, who trails only Todd Pannell and Jason Holder in the SA riding premiership, has been booked to ride Victorian sprinter Zoutori for Matt Ellerton and Simon Zahra. Crowther will ride local Bold Star for SA horseman Gordon Richards. It will be

Neindorf’s first Group 1 ride. South Australian Derby-winning jockey John Allen has been sourced by Godolphin to ride Trekking in the sprint.

Allen had a day out at Morphettville last weekend, winning three features races, the SA Sires’ Produce Stakes, Adelaide Guineas and was in the saddle for Russian Camelot’s stunning SA Derby victory.

Allen was in trouble with stewards for causing interference in the Derby but won’t start his five-meeting suspension until after the Goodwood meeting.

Trekking won the 2019 Stradbroke Handicap and was placed behind Yes Yes Yes in last year’s $14m Everest in Sydney. He’ll be having his third run back after chasing home Nature Strip in the T.J. Smith

Stakes first up from a spell before running second behind Greyworm in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes in Sydney last time out.

Trekking won a jump-out at Flemington last Friday that included fellow Goodwood aspirants Zoutori and Santa Ana Lane. Ryan Hurdle has picked up the ride on James Cummings’ second Goodwood runner Home Of The Brave.

Godolphin will also have three-year-old filly Lyre in the feature after her slashing second behind Bella Vella in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes.

The Anthony Freedmantrained filly looked back to be somewhere near her best when she closed smartly, with Zac Spain opting for the ride after he was originally booked for Bold Star.

Freedman’s main Goodwood hope will be 2018 winner Santa Ana Lane, who will be trying to be the first horse in more than 100 years to win a second Goodwood.

Local star Gytrash is a $3 Goodwood favourite with Ladbrokes, ahead of The Inevitable ($5.50) and Santa Ana Lane ($6).
