Tas kicks off 2017 Reading Challenge

-

TASMANIAN Premier Will Hodgman has issued a Reading Challenge to primary school children across the state. This year the Challenge is teaming up with the Hawthorn Football Club to engage students and to highlight the importance of improving reading skills in young children.

The Premier aims to reach those who may not enjoy reading or who are struggling; especially boys, who to date have had lower participation rates than girls.

With the support of the Hawks, the Challenge includes new incentives to encourage kids to complete the Challenge (to read 10 books in 10 weeks) including Hawthorn football game tickets, school visits by football players and book prizes.

In 2016, 32,895 students took part with 13,334 completing the Challenge.
