THE Victorian State Government has opened the second round of grants for its $400,000 Musical Instruments program to help schools purchase new musical instruments.

The second round would provide 200 Government, Catholic and Independent primary schools with grants of up to $5000 to help strengthen their music programs.

“Research tells us that exposure to music and musical education results in better results and better attendance,” Education minister James Merlino said. “Last year 43 schools purchased more than 500 musical instruments including drums, guitars, tambourines, xylophones, cowbells and even an emu caller.”
