The Australian Oil & Gas Review
Powering clients over the long term
OVER the past 45 years, IHI Engineering Australia has been a key contributor to the modernisation of the Australian power generation industry, specialising in Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM), Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) and aftersales support.
IHI’S experience covers a range of technologies including high efficiency gas turbines, coal-fired boilers and reciprocating engines with a total installed capacity in Australia to date of over 9000MW, accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the utility generation nationally.
The South Hedland Power Station is IHI’S most recent project, which was built under an EPC contract with Transalta and is the first LM6000 combined cycle gas turbine power plant of its kind in Australia.
Using the latest technology, the plant will modernise power generation of the remote Pilbara providing reliable and fuel-efficient electricity supply well into the future.
This project is the most recent chapter in a long relationship between IHI and Transalta in Australia, spanning almost 25 years beginning with the EPC contract for the Parkeston Power Station in Kalgoorlie, which is still operating today.
IHI are pioneering low emission power generation innovations in Australia such as their oxyfuel Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) system.
In a world first, IHI’S technology was implemented at the Oxyfuel project at Callide in Queensland to demonstrate CCS on a utility scale boiler.
In addition to the above, IHI also offer renewable energy solutions to the market including Solar PV and Waste to Energy plants.
Through consistent long term success, IHI have cemented their reputation across mining, utility and government clients for long-term value, reliability and customer satisfaction.
Into the future, IHI strives to continue contributing to innovation in the Australian power generation industry while maintaining leading project delivery, quality, safety and environmental performance.
IHI services its clients around Australia from its Sydney base as well as its Perth offices to provide local personalised and responsive support.
