Cultana plant funding secured

-

THE South Australian Government and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) have each committed $500,000 towards a feasibility study for Energyaustralia’s 225 megawatt (MW) Cultana seawater pumped hydro plant.

If built the plant would be the largest seawater plant constructed in the world, and the first in Australia.

Energyaustralia executive Mark Collette said the team had a lot of work ahead of them this year with detailed design and engineering, community engagement, environmental assessments and approvals.

“We’re excited about the potential for seawater pumped hydro to play an important role in Australia’s future energy mix,” Mr Collette said.
