VR train­ing boost for min­er­als sec­tor

THE Univer­sity of South Aus­tralia will es­tab­lish a new im­mer­sive vir­tual re­al­ity ed­u­ca­tion and out­reach pro­gram to help at­tract a new pool of tal­ent into the sec­tor.

The pro­gram – Project LIVE-MM (Learn­ing through Im­mer­sive Vir­tual En­vi­ron­ments for Min­er­als and Min­ing) – will en­able stu­dents to be­come a ge­ol­o­gist for the day, and gain an in­sider’s per­spec­tive of geo­science in ac­tion.

“Peo­ple will be able to in­ter­act with 3D mod­els to achieve a par­tic­u­lar goal, pro­gres­sively un­pack­ing the in­for­ma­tion pro­vided to make sense of it,” As­so­ciate Pro­fes­sor Rai­mondo said.

“So, it will func­tion like a se­ries of mini games or tasks within the vir­tual en­vi­ron­ment.”
