Transformer solutions for mining
WILSON Transformer Company (WTC) has provided many transformer solutions to the mining industry across Australia with varying capacity.
One of its recent projects has been the supply of three 40/45MVA 132/33/11kV power transformers for the South Flank project, which when completed will be one of the world’s largest iron ore operations.
The role of a transformer in the mining industry is at the heart of operation; therefore, it must meet many requirements, particularly in safety, reliability and efficiency.
WTC operates under very strict quality, safety, and environmental management systems, with all its products being designed, manufactured and tested to Australian and/or international standards.
Utilising the latest engineering software with an in-house developed system, the company designs optimum standard and customised products for life-time performance and safety.
The mining industry requires robust transformers that are built to withstand the harsh operating environments with extreme temperature variations, corrosive chemicals and heavy pollution.
WTC has extensive experience in designing transformers according to the specific requirements of its mining customers.
Its proven paint system eliminates corrosion and reduces the rapid aging of the external surfaces.
When a transformer is deployed in areas with high fire safety requirements and environmentally sensitive locations, ester fluids can be used for the transformer insulating system.
These fluids flash point and fire point are more than twice that of mineral oil, and together with a very low carbon footprint, provide a good solution to fire and environmental risk mitigation.
A transformer is a major investment that is designed, manufactured and installed to operate for more than 40 years.
Understanding the condition of equipment is essential for strategic planning and efficient asset utilisation.
To support this need, WTC offers a holistic service and support for transformers including condition assessment, maintenance, repair and refurbishment.
