SRG secures Worsley Alumina contract

- RAY CHAN

SRG Global has secured a long-term contract with South32 Worsley Alumina to provide a complete suite of engineered access solutions for the operation in WA’s South West, including scaffold services and highly skilled rope access technicians.

The contract is for an initial three-year term with extension options for a further three years if Worsley Alumina exercises the extension options.

Works under this contract started in June and are expected to generate revenues of about $60m over the six-year term or about $32m over the initial three-year term.

The contract requires minimal capital outlay and will increase SRG Global’s workforce by about 100 full-time positions.

SRG Global managing director David Macgeorge said the opportunity to work with a world-renowned mining company like South32 at its long-established Worsley Alumina project was a great achievement for SRG Global.

“The effort our team put in during the competitive tendering process is admirable and I commend them on a fantastic result,” he said. “This contract also represents a significant advancement in the group’s long-term strategy to deliver recurring term revenue within the asset services sector.”

Worsley Alumina mines bauxite near Boddington and conveys it to a refinery at the town of Collie for conversion into white alumina powder.

SRG’s other recent mining contracts include a three-year drill and blast contract with Evolution Mining, and a ground support services contract at KCGM’s Mt Charlotte gold mine in WA.

Worsley is one of South32’s larger global operations, with 86pc ownership.

The remainder is split between Japan Alumina (10pc) and Sojitz Alumina (4pc).
