A reputation for reliability
SMS Mining Services was founded in 2000 and has expanded its offering to the surface mining sector with its unique ability to work under different contract models to deliver fleet rental, repairs, maintenance and contract mining.
The company’s capabilities are growing constantly, and in 2018, SMS Mining Services became part of Rivet, an Australian provider of specialised transport and logistic solutions.
SMS maintenance general manager Stephen Sweeney said the company has a vision to become the best mining services company respected for adding value to projects around Australia.
“Our core purpose is to work together with our clients to deliver project profitability and to maximise the return on investment by adapting our systems to suit the specific requirements of each client and mining operation,” Mr Sweeney said.
“We will do this by providing safe, innovative and quality value-adding services and equipment.”
Mr Sweeney said it was the company’s reputation for setting the benchmark in equipment reliability, service and equipment maintenance that led to equipment hire and maintenance contacts with Mount Gibson Iron’s Koolan Island and Iron Hill projects.
“We have one of the largest rental fleets in Australia, which we continue to invest in to deliver fit for purpose equipment to our clients so that they can mine productively,” he said.
“This enables flexibility for Mount Gibson Iron and alleviates the need to invest heavily in capital expenditure for mobile mining equipment.”
Mr Sweeney said that a key component of SMS’s maintenance strategy is the use of the iSolutions AMT asset management system.
“This approach helps to ensure that operating plant and equipment is maintained in accordance with accepted industry standards, and ensures a priority focus on timely, preventive maintenance activities,” he said.
“We ensure that whether it’s equipment hire or maintenance services, our clients like Mount Gibson Iron can rest assured we will tailor a bespoke solution and offer contract flexibility to allow our clients to focus on what they do best – mining.”
