Solid wheels, solid reputation
BIG Tyre has been manufacturing mining wheels in Australia for more than 20 years and has built a reputation as solid as its tyres.
According to Big Tyre chief executive officer, Dan Louden, what sets the company apart are its quality, reliability, custom design and problem-solving capabilities.
“We use the highest quality rubber we can buy to create a long-lasting product,” he said.
“We have the capability to design according to the load specifications and other desired features to suit bespoke applications. “Plus, we are problem solvers. “
“We will meet the customers’ needs for their particular site, whether that’s unusual load and size requirements or solving issues like preventing a poorly fitted chain from slipping off the wheel and damaging the brake line.”
Big Tyre has watched with interest as its competitors have copied some of its innovative modifications such as protective side wall plates that significantly improve the wheel’s longevity.
One innovative solution the Big Tyre team is proud of, is adding a stainless-steel centre to the naive plate to prevent the wheel from seizing onto the hub in particularly corrosive environments.
“Before we provided this solution to one of our mining clients, their wheels sometimes had to be removed by cutting them off the hub with an oxy,” Mr Louden said.
Big Tyre’s solid wheels have a range of benefits for mining applications, most importantly safety (no risk of tyre blow-out) and reliability, which means they are cost-effective with a long tread life compared to pneumatics.
“We’ve got the quality, warranty and the reputation that stands by our product,” Mr Louden said.
“That’s why we’re the preferred supplier to multiple global original equipment manufacturers and mining equipment hire companies and have our products used in over 50 countries around the world.”
